Ice Storm
Well it finally happened. one of 3 major ice storms slammed into Springfield, MO about 48 hours ago. By the end of the first night, more than 67,000 people were left without power or heat and this is only the beginning. My home fell victim also to a next door neighbor who has been told constantly to trim his big walnut tree. He never did. The result was two fold. The first big branch that broke off because of the ice buildup, ripped down my houses electrical feed, shorting everything out and blew the transformer. My back up generator for the home kicked on to keep power in the house. Not two hours later another big branch succumbed to teh weight of the ice and came crashing down on the generator putting it completely out of commission. Michelle and her daughter Melanie who have been staying at my home are at this moment doing their best to keep warm. I have told them that I am turning around and bringing the truck back to give them power to the house. Give me credit for installing a 6kw generator on my truck. Now the bad news... the damage was so bad that the city was declared a disaster area. The electric company said they have no definite date or eta of service restoral which means it could be weeks before any progress is seen.
With all we as a people have accomplished, we are still insignificant in the hands of Mother Nature.
